A Central Arizona College professor has developed his own alternative route for a future interstate proposed to run through southern Arizona.
Sanjeev Ramchandra, a math professor at CAC’s Signal Peak Campus, has submitted a proposal to officials with the Arizona Department of Transportation that would create the future Interstate 11 while bypassing Pinal County.
Instead, the idea behind Ramchandra’s proposal is to use existing roadways, noting that widening and enhancements will have to be made to the existing highways. However, he said it will cut down on “tearing up the desert,” by using existing routes.
