Changes needed to get Florence’s wastewater treatment running smooth

Standing in front of one of the old lagoons at Florence’s South Wastewater Treatment Plant on Plant Road, Town Manager Brent Billingsley sees potential in turning the vacant land into a benefit for the town once again.

The lagoons have been empty for 20 years, since the plant updated to another technology, but they’re still part of the town’s wastewater permit, Billingsley said. He said he would like to officially close them out and convert them to a project that recharges the aquifer with the town’s treated sewer effluent.
