Despite unexpected demands, Maricopa dispatch center operates with ease

To successfully operate a police dispatch that can receive thousands more calls than expected, it takes the leadership of experienced and poised professional. That is exactly the guidance the Maricopa Police Department communications center receives under Kim Clark.
Clark was hired as the first employee for the dispatch center in November 2015. When she was brought on board, the city’s vision of having a dispatch center, and a police substation, were near to becoming a reality. Clark said when she got hired, the walls of the substation were up, but there was no roof or doors.
From there, the process moved quickly. The center got their certificate of occupancy in January and hired the first six dispatchers who began intensive training. On May 1, they went live.
