City receives national award for budget
[NEWS RELEASE] The City of Maricopa received the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for fiscal year 2017/18. The award reflects the commitment of City Council and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, the City had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity’s budget serves as:
- a policy document
- a financial plan
- an operations guide
- a communication device
Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories, and fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award.
“The City of Maricopa Finance team has done a tremendous job putting together the budget and has received this prestigious award for ten years in a row,” said Interim City Manager Trisha Sorensen. “We are in the process of putting together a budget for the 2018/2019 fiscal year with the same high standards.”
The Government Finance Officers Association is a major professional association servicing the needs of more than 19,000 appointed and elected local, state and provincial-level government officials and other finance practitioners.
