Community says goodbye to Saguaro Elementary School

To Emily Hoffman, Saguaro Elementary School is more than a building. It’s the place where she met her lifelong best friend in the first grade, learned the importance of academics and decided she wanted to become a teacher.
Hoffman is a first-grade teacher at Saguaro, teaching in the same classroom in which she once sat as a student. Thursday evening, she was one of hundreds of people on hand at Saguaro to say an official “goodbye” to the school building, which has served the community since the 1970s.
“It’s bittersweet knowing the building will be torn down,” Hoffman said. “I have so many memories here, and I love teaching here.”
