Casa Grande boards asking voters to retain budget overrides

School districts in Casa Grande are beginning to ramp up efforts to ask voters to keep two taxes that officials say help their bottom lines.

But some board members, at least at the high school district, are concerned that recent increases in funding from the state might hamper attempts. Tony Salcido, a member of the Casa Grande Union High School District Governing Board, said during a special meeting Monday that voters want to know why the district is asking for an override when teachers just got an 18 percent raise.

He was joined in agreement with Nancy Hawkins, who said that in previous years when the district asked voters to approve the override, “we were lacking classroom funding.”
