FUSD teachers to receive almost 13 percent raises

Teachers in Florence Unified School District will have an average raise of nearly 13 percent in the new annual budget approved by the school board Tuesday.

The average FUSD teacher earned $43,990 in the old budget year and will earn $49,507 in the new year, District Finance Director Beverly Myers told the board.

Teachers statewide went on strike for five days in late April, ultimately persuading Gov. Doug Ducey to agree to a 9 percent raise in the fall and 5 percent raises in each of the next two years. FUSD had $455,302 in Prop 123 money to spend on teacher salaries in the old budget year, but that funding goes to zero in the new year, Myers said.
