Girard running in LD8 to provide voice for rural health care

Sharon Girard, like many people who live in Arizona, moved here from elsewhere. She thought she was maybe coming to retire, along with her husband, in a retirement community in Eloy.

“He plays softball, golf, pickleball and lays by the pool, having a great time all day long. But I was never like that. I think that’s a fantasy that you think that you’re going to be able to march off into the sunset,” Girard said. “I’ve always been politically active my entire life.”

Girard immediately got involved in local politics upon moving to the area, starting with the local Democrats Club and then serving on the board of Planned Parenthood. Now, far from relaxing, she is running for the Arizona Senate in Legislative District 8 as a Democrat.
