Road improvements around the new community recreation center will cost more than originally planned, council members heard Monday.
The City Council authorized an additional $700,000 for the work to be completed around the intersection of Kortsen and Peart roads, near the new community recreation center. Deputy Public Works Director Terry McKeon told the council the additional money is needed because the improvements to the roads are more costly than originally planned.
Previously, the council authorized spending $800,000 for the project, which will allow for deceleration and acceleration lanes into and out of the recreation center, median improvements and some work on the electric service for the intersection. Relocating electrical components belonging to Electrical District 2 and Cox Communications also will be needed.
