Pinal targeting dealers in drug deaths

Pinal County’s two top law enforcement officers gave a state of the county update regarding public safety Thursday.

Pinal County Attorney Kent Volkmer and Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb told the Economic Development Group of Eloy the opioid epidemic likely has claimed four lives in the past two months in Pinal County. The four deaths were suspected overdoses.

Both the PCAO and PCSO are investigating whether the deaths are possibly linked to fentanyl, a deadly street drug. Lamb said his office has begun to investigate overdoses in reverse — that is, trying to trace the deceased’s last steps with the intention of charging the supplier with more serious crimes, including homicide.
