Town forming new Youth Commission

A new Youth Commission, operating like other town boards and commissions, is expected to give local teens a direct voice to the mayor and council.
The Town Council heard the first reading of an ordinance creating the commission Monday, and is expected to consider final approval on Aug. 20.
Florence Recreation Superintendent John Nixon told the council in a memo that its 2017 Strategic Plan included the creation of a Youth Commission as an objective related to community vitality. He told the council Monday that teens want outlets for their energy, creativity and voices.
