Casa Grande official says recycling faces national challenges

Members of a local service organization learned the dismal state of recycling at a meeting Thursday.

Danny Sainz, who works for the city of Casa Grande’s Sanitation Division, told members of the Casa Grande Kiwanis Club that recycling programs nationwide need to be revamped in order to accept changes to a global market for recycled materials.

Sainz said China is the primary purchaser of recyclables from the United States and Europe. Recyclable materials are sent to China to be processed, but he said the byproduct of sending large quantities of trash to China has had an adverse effect on that country.
