New users cut off from Johnson Utilities as EPCOR cites lack of capacity

Citing insufficient capacity for current customers, a state commission voted to temporarily halt any future hookups to a local utility during a hearing on Thursday.

Arizona Corporation Commissioners voted 3-2 to impose a temporary stay on allowing any water or wastewater hookups in any Johnson Utilities service areas.

EPCOR Water, the interim management company that’s been charged with managing and upgrading Johnson Utilities’ infrastructure in northern Pinal County, told the ACC there wasn’t enough water or wastewater capacity to handle the customers they have, let alone adding any more to the over-taxed system.
