Pinal supervisors discuss ‘problem’ code enforcement

Private property rights were pitted against public health, safety and wellness before the Pinal County Board of Supervisors on Wednesday.

The supervisors tabled a decision on one San Tan Valley property owner who had appealed a $4,200 fine the county’s code enforcement and legal departments were trying to levy on him.

Supervisors were asked to approve the fine based on a hearing officer’s determination in July that the owner, Ward Wheeler, was in violation of several of the county’s code and zoning provisions. Wheeler, however, disputed the county’s findings and called what he termed a code officer’s vendetta against him “unfair.”
