Why haven’t Pinal’s school districts consolidated?

Ten years ago, a state committee recommended unifying some of Pinal County’s smaller school districts.

Voters rejected the idea, possibly because they were told the state was not going to give the newly consolidated districts any more money to build new schools. So the idea of consolidation was shelved and mostly forgotten about.

The small K-8 districts around Eloy, Stanfield, Arizona City and Sacaton continued operating independently and feeding their students to the nearby high school districts.
