Maricopa council approves new fees for Copper Sky membership

The Maricopa City Council gave final approval to a new fee structure at Copper Sky Recreational Complex that includes the elimination of a 40-percent discount for seniors and instead gives them a 10-percent discount.
The move, according to city officials, is an effort to eliminate or restrict options that would undercut or devalue memberships. As a result, the new fee structure will increase rates for day passes, limits on punch cards and incentives for commitment.
“The two things that we ended up with people being upset about were the punch cards and the day passes and the rates they were originally getting,” Councilwoman Nancy Smith said while addressing Community Services Director Nathan Ullyot. “That rate was a killer deal, but it wasn’t sustainable for Copper Sky and it wasn’t fair to the people who paid memberships.”
