Casa Grande council seeks more information on irrigation issue

Residents of a neighborhood irrigation district urged City Council members to find a mechanism to pay for repairs to its failing well, with one man saying the city had plenty of money to do so.

During a Casa Grande City Council study session Tuesday, members heard about needed repairs to the city-owned-and -operated well that services 14 homes in the Evergreen neighborhood, which is east and north of City Hall. City Community Services Director Steve Hardesty said the well can’t produce the amount of water that it did in years past, in part due to an aging system and in part due to a lower water table.

Hardesty said to drill a new well would cost about $200,000, and if new pipes are needed throughout the system, the cost could be upwards of $700,000.
