The cost to clear the debris of the former Kokopelli Moon Saloon could be less than half of previous estimates, the Historic District Advisory Commission was told Jan. 30.
An initial environmental review indicates there’s only limited asbestos, and little or no lead paint, Florence Community Development Director Larry Harmer told the commission. The town has been granted access to the site in court, and is now waiting to receive bids to clear the debris.
The 106-year-old tavern at 255 N. Main St. was heavily damaged by two fires in June. Town officials previously estimated it could cost as much as $300,000 to clear the lot, with the town placing a lien on the property to recover that cost. HDAC Vice Chairman Cathy Adam pressed Harmer for how much less the cost may be now.
