Florence Copper Project’s first batch of mineral has tested to be of exceptional purity and quality, parent company Taseko Mines Ltd. of Canada said in an announcement April 25.

The mine’s first 3,700 pounds (32 sheets of copper at 117 pounds each) of copper has been assayed at higher than 99.9 percent copper by Minerals Technology, LLC, an independent laboratory, Taseko said.

“Our test facility is performing very well and we are extremely pleased to have produced such high quality copper this early in the process,” Russell Hallbauer, president and CEO of Taseko, said in the news release. “These results have exceeded our expectations. There is no better proof to demonstrate the success of our highly engineered in-situ leaching process test facility.”
