Florence plan aims for a more walkable town

Just 4 percent of respondents said walking or biking is their most commonly used form of transportation. But 86 percent said they’d prefer to walk or bike to destinations they currently drive to.

The town’s Active Transportation Plan, or “ATP,” due to be finished in two months, aims to give them more options. Florence has never had a bicycle and pedestrian master plan. The ATP will develop policies and procedures necessary to create a system for bicycle and pedestrian traffic in an integrated, safe and efficient multimodal transportation system, according to the town website.

The town’s consultant, Michael Baker International, held open houses on the plan around town on April 18, leading up to a joint work session with Florence’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and Planning and Zoning Commission.
