New Florence town budget hikes spending
by Mark Cowling | Florence Reminder & Blade Tribune
The town expects to increase spending by $1.4 million in the new fiscal year for total expenses of more than $16.9 million.
Increases in both revenues and spending indicate a growing community and a healthy economy, the town’s new Finance Director, Rey Sanchez, told the Town Council.
The town proposes to overspend its revenues by almost a half million dollars. But the stated revenues don’t include planned transfers to the general fund from fund balances. Mayor Tara Walter and Budget Analyst Rebecca Jimenez told council the proposed budget is balanced. The town’s General Fund has grown each year in recent years, and is projected to be more than $11.4 million at the end of 2019.
