As a new overpass on the highway continues to inch toward completion, a new traffic light is in the works on State Route 347 despite harsh criticism from everyday drivers and the city of Maricopa.

The Gila River Indian Community requested a light at Old Maricopa Road and SR 347 in hopes of controlling the traffic leaving major events near the area between Riggs Road and Interstate 10. The light will allow the drivers to turn left onto 347, which is currently prohibited at the intersection.

GRIC is funding the project, which is estimated to begin early in 2020.
