Florence council, Caliente come to agreement

The town and Caliente Casa de Sol have settled their differences on how the RV park may safely develop and the Town Council approved certain nonconforming uses by ordinance on Monday.

Propane and gas are to be removed from all new and replaced park model homes. Replacement park models can be no more than 5 years old, and all new and replaced park models must have carbon monoxide detectors. New park model sets must have a 5-foot rear setback to accommodate existing utility easements.

The park has existed since about 1971, according to a town staff report. The original buffers between structures, or “setbacks,” were not strictly enforced and resulted in 1 foot on the livable side and 2 feet on the carport side. When the town announced wider setbacks in keeping with current building code it was difficult for new construction to take place.
