The town has begun the process of forming its fourth Streetlight Improvement District over the objections of Vice Mayor John Anderson, who voted against it at Monday night’s Town Council meeting.

Deputy Town Manager/Town Clerk Lisa Garcia told the council 78 percent of property owners, representing 54 percent of the district’s assessed value, signed a petition to form the district in Anthem at Merrill Ranch units 53 and 55. Residents now have 40 days to challenge the petition or ask that their signatures be removed.

SLIDs levy a property tax on residents to pay for their neighborhood streetlights. Maximum rate of the tax is $1.20 per $100 of assessed value. The developer pays all costs until the SLID is formed, including costs associated with establishing the SLID. Those living in SLID 4 would not be taxed until next year.
