Fix for Florence’s problem intersection gets design contract

Progress continues toward rebuilding the town’s awkward intersection of State Routes 287 and 79B, although construction isn’t expected until 2021.

The Arizona Department of Transportation recently awarded a design contract to Kimley-Horn engineers, which was surveying the site earlier this month. ADOT has also hired an environmental firm to begin collecting cultural data to learn what historical resources may exist.

“We could see folks collecting information, perhaps even digging holes, over the next few months to get that project started,” Town Manager Brent Billingsley said in a year-end interview.
