Empowerment Systems: Youth Mental Health First Aid Class
Empowerment Systems formally announced that on February 11th and 12th at the Empowerment Systems office from 9am – 1:30pm they will be hosting the Youth Mental Health First Aid class. This 8-hour session over the two days will provide a certificate to each attendee who is present for both days and all 8-hours.
This session is designed for adults who regularly interact with youth (parents, grandparents, teachers, counselors, etc).
It is primarily focused on information participants can use to help youth ages 5 – 12. It builds an understanding of the importance of early intervention and how to help youth in crisis or experiencing a mental health challenge.
Participants will learn the risk factors and warning signs of a variety of mental health challenges common among today’s youth, such as depression and anxiety. Participants DO NOT learn to diagnose, provide therapy or counseling – rather participants will learn to support a person developing signs and symptoms of a mental illness or in an emotional crisis by applying a core five-step action plan.
