State Transportation Board to further discuss five-year construction program June 2nd

Rural Transportation Advocacy Council

The State Transportation Board will further discuss ADOT’s Five-Year Construction Program update when they convene for a study session next Tuesday, June 2nd at 9:00 AM.  The public may watch online and submit comments through: www.aztransportationboard.gov

At the Board’s meeting on May 15th, ADOT staff provided some options that the Board will likely be forced to consider in light of the anticipated loss of $711 million in revenue due to COVID-19 impacts on fuel and car sales.  For Greater Arizona, those actions include the elimination of most expansion projects currently in the five-year plan, a further reduction in preservation investment, a suspension of the HURF Exchange program, and the return of $115 million in federal INFRA and TIGER grants due to the potential inability to satisfy the funding match requirements.

While the five-year plan update is posted as an agenda item for the June 2nd meeting for information and discussion only, it is anticipated that the Board will vote on a fiscally constrained plan at their next regularly scheduled meeting on June 19th.  A plan update is required to be formally approved prior to the start of the new state fiscal year on July 1st.
