Candidates express positive views of annexation

Candidates for Town Council expressed positive views of annexation in an online forum held by the Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce on June 4.
John K. Johnston said he was living in Crestfield Manor off Felix Road when the town was last planning to annex it. At the time, he was told the neighborhood would have to be brought up to a certain code, including sidewalks and streetlights. “I am for the annexation of those subdivisions,” but it’s hard to get people to sign on for the increase in taxes, Johnston said.
Residents of those neighborhoods are “kind of in limbo” and can’t vote in Florence, he continued. “I believe they should be part of our town. If your ZIP Code is 85132, you’re Florence. Same with Cactus Forest, same with all of those places, bring them in, they’re all Florence.”
