Florence winery owner gives input on how town should spend $3M in COVID-19 relief funds

The town will receive $3.1 million in CARES Act funding to help cover expenses resulting from COVID-19, and three citizens urged the town to use it to boost the business community at Monday’s Town Council meeting.

In an email read by Deputy Town Manager/Town Clerk Lisa Garcia, Harold Christ, owner of the Windmill Winery, said the council needs to hire a full-time economic development director “with a verifiable track record.”

The cities of Eloy, Coolidge, Casa Grande and Maricopa have already done this, he added.
