Maricopa’s CARES Act distribution to small businesses $1 million less than projected

With checks already distributed for most recipients of CARES Act funding, the attention of the city has turned to what to do with the remaining funds.

City Council originally voted for an allocation of $1.35 million to small businesses and $350,000 to nonprofits, but only a little under $300,000 was awarded to small businesses in the end, and $268,756 was awarded to nonprofits.

The monetary amount of funds given to small businesses is still subject to change, however, as some applications submitted during the open application window in late June were lost in the system.
