Homeless showers near Casa Grande church OK’d; neighbors object

A city panel has approved a temporary permit for a shower trailer to serve those who are homeless, leaving some nearby residents concerned for their neighborhood.

The Casa Grande Board of Adjustment met Tuesday evening to vote on allowing a temporary permit for up to two years to allow the homeless to shower every Saturday for a few hours at Fountain of Living Waters Church, located at 518 E. Second St.

Melanie Velcko, founder of The Rest Stop, the nonprofit that is hoping to meet the needs of Casa Grande’s homeless population, has already tested the trailer three times.
