New Hidden Valley flood control assessment could help area long-term

A new flood control assessment in the Hidden Valley area could have big results for an area historically prone to flooding.

The Pinal County Flood Control District will conduct the Vekol Wash and Smith Wash Watersheds Plan and Environmental Assessment to help discern and mitigate the flood hazards in the area.

The district held a public meeting Aug. 6 to discuss the preliminary study plans and answer any questions from the community as part of the scoping phase. Flood Control Section Chief Christopher Wanamaker led the meeting with his team and explained the scoping phase is the first step in a long-term process that will hopefully address flooding and resource concerns for residents.
