Arizona isn’t known as an especially robust state for manufacturing, with service businesses and real estate dominating here. That reputation showed up in a string of Bs, Cs and Ds on a new report card focused on the production of goods.

However, the grades don’t yet reflect some major recent manufacturing announcements that could provide momentum for Arizona in future years.

While most Americans now work in service jobs, manufacturing helps to round out and enrich a state’s economy. Manufacturing jobs in many industries such as aerospace and medical products pay relatively well, and large factories tend to attract suppliers and other businesses.
