Florence council, staff looking for energy savings

The town will begin an exhaustive audit of energy inefficiencies throughout all town facilities, and Library & Community Center visitors will soon have covered parking, following action at Monday’s Town Council meeting.

The council authorized the town manager to contract for an “investment grade audit” of town facilities. The savings the town will see over 10 to 20 years are guaranteed to pay for the cost of the upgrades, Ben Bitter, the town’s intergovernmental and communications manager, told the council.

“The first step is to find out where our inefficiencies exist,” Bitter said. Much of the town’s equipment is outdated or nearing the end of its useful life, according to a town staff report. At Town Hall, the HVAC systems were not designed to cool an office building.
