Second Maricopa high school moves forward after farm signs covenant

Weeks after the entire process threatened to be undone due to a dispute over a pesticide covenant, the Maricopa Unified School District reported plans for a second high school are back on track.
The MUSD Governing Board heard Wednesday that owners of Anderson-Palmisano Farms, which neighbors the approved site for the second high school to the north, agreed to sign the pesticide covenant, which is required to ensure that chemicals aren’t used too close to where children are going to school.
The school site is at Farrell and Murphy roads in eastern Maricopa. The district hopes to have the school open by July 2022.
