Sewer and water provided by city? Mayor candidates explain how it could happen

If there is a groundswell of community support to bring water and sewer services under municipal control in Apache Junction, much study and investigation would be needed before asking voters for approval, candidates for Apache Junction mayor said.

Apache Junction City Council members serve as the Apache Junction Water Utilities Community Facilities District board and appoint members to the Superstition Mountains Community Facilities District No. 1 sewer district’s board.

Apache Junction Councilmember Robin Barker and Vice Mayor Chip Wilson received the most votes for mayor out of five candidates during the Aug. 4 primary ballot. Since no candidate received the required majority vote as determined by state law, the top two candidates advance to the Nov. 3 general election.
