Two Apache Junction residents — including a sitting council member — have been appointed as volunteers to the planning and zoning commission from a field of 10 applicants.

After interviewing candidates at a work session Nov. 30, council members on Dec. 1 made separate motions for each position open. Robin Barker abstained from the vote for a conflict of interest — she was a candidate. In three votes, Mrs. Barker and Richard Cantwell were appointed to the Planning and Zoning Commission.

The commission’s primary duties are to formulate, create and administer any lawful plan adopted by the governing body for the city’s present and future growth pertaining to land and building use, together with all incidental activities usually associated therewith and commonly known as planning and zoning, Meetings are held in the council chambers and are video and audio recorded.
