Florence Heights proposed for truck bypass

A Florence man asked the Town Council to designate Florence Heights Drive as a truck bypass, rather than sending trucks on Main Street and Butte Avenue.

“Time is of the essence” to appeal to state highway officials before the intersection of State Routes 287 and 79B is redesigned as a roundabout, Rick Luster told the council Monday.

He said this traffic now passes through three school-crossing zones and approximately 40 residences, with many front doors as close as 30 feet to the street. Rarely do these trucks stop in town, he said.
