Maricopa swears in new council members

New Maricopa City Council members Amber Liermann and Bob Marsh were sworn into their new roles on Dec. 1, while Julia Gusse and Marvin Brown made their official departure from the dais.

Gusse was unable to attend her final council session due to being exposed to COVID-19 earlier in the week, but the council made sure she was recognized for her dedication to the council. The council honored her work with veterans and her own service in the military by gifting her an ornate wall hanging.

“There are very few people, I think, in the service in this city or anywhere that is as passionate about veterans as she is. It’s something that’s very near and dear to her heart,” Mayor Christian Price said of Gusse. “The council wanted to tell her thank you for all the hours of service. … We wanted to give her this beautiful flag that’s stained and has her name inscribed at the bottom.”
