Supervisors vote 3-2 against taking over Maricopa water district

The Pinal County Board of Supervisors declined to revoke the authority of the water district serving the city of Maricopa’s historic area and instead urged the district to renew efforts to work with the city.
Citing a lack of accountability for testing fire hydrants and water pressure, Maricopa city officials had asked the board to revoke the authority of the water district’s elected board of directors on an emergency basis. The city would then have the option of making an agreement with the Board of Supervisors to run the system as a municipal utility.
“You’re playing ‘bad boy’ with the city: Quit it,” Supervisors Vice Chairman Pete Rios, D-Dudleyville, told officials of Maricopa Consolidated Domestic Water Improvement District on Wednesday. “Just quit it. Start working with the mayor and council and city manager. Information needs to flow both ways.”
