The Casa Grande Elementary School District may be repurposing Evergreen Elementary School as a K-8 Center for Online and Innovative Learning because of an enrollment drop in the district.

“Principal (Scott) Raymond has spoken to the Evergreen and CGOLA (Online Learning Academy) teams about this possible change, and I notified our CGESD staff this morning,” Superintendent JoEtta Gonzales said in a letter sent out to families. “This plan will also likely involve a school boundary change for approximately 250 Evergreen students.”

According to the letter, because enrollment is down this year, the district is experiencing a significant loss of funding. CGESD is looking at a preliminary budget shortfall somewhere in the ballpark of $2 million to $3 million from last school year.
