State regulators negotiate savings for Johnson Utilities customers

Johnson Utilities customers will save more than $40 million in a series of settlement agreements with the water and wastewater utility, the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality announced.

These agreements, reached with ADEQ and the Arizona Corporation Commission, address JU’s historic environmental violations, pave the way for sale of the utility to interim operator EPCOR and chart a course for reliable water and wastewater service, ADEQ said in a press release.

JU, the private utility most-cited by ADEQ since 2017, serves some 62,000 water and 40,000 wastewater customers in the Florence, Queen Creek and San Tan Valley area.
