The San Tan Valley watershed is approximately 64 square miles and includes portions of the town of Queen Creek, the town of Florence and the Gila River Indian Community. Pinal County

The Pinal County Flood Control District is developing an area drainage master plan for San Tan Valley.

This study will identify flooding issues and develop strategies to mitigate flooding hazards within the growing San Tan Valley area. This study is the first step to generate a comprehensive flood mitigation plan for the San Tan Valley area. Once completed, the study will be used to determine and prioritize future flood mitigation projects. Major tasks include:

  • Collecting data
  • Seeking community input
  • Acquiring topographic data
  • Analyzing the Queen Creek watershed east of the Central Arizona Project canal
  • Developing a hydraulic model to determine and depict existing flooding hazards
  • Devising flood mitigation alternatives
  • Recommending a flood mitigation plan
  • Describing the watershed
