Florence residential park seeks relief from town’s wide setbacks

Residents of Caliente Casa de Sol over-55 community asked for an end to the year-old debate over how much space between buildings, or “setback,” is necessary in their park.

Many existing homes, with Arizona rooms and decks, sit just 1 or 2 feet from their neighbors. The town is allowing these to remain, but is requiring that new homes have setbacks of as much as 5 feet.

“Property values have dropped, prospective purchasers have backed away from agreements, and in general the total Caliente community is in disarray” since the town announced its intent to enforce the new codes, Caliente HOA member and Citizens 4 Five Parks United President Bruce Long told the Town Council Monday.
