‘Price of progress’ leaves small Maricopa business looking for answers
by Joey Chenoweth | Maricopa Monitor
When an area grows, and the number of new residents far outnumbers those who have lived in a place their whole life, the risk is always there that the elements that made a community special and different could disappear. Often, as can be seen in booming cities around the country, small businesses are a casualty of the growth as property values soar and demand for big-name brands rise with them.
One of the few locally owned brick-and-mortar businesses that has survived the incorporation and the ensuing growth is Napa Auto Parts, located on the corner of State Route 347 and the Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway, an intersection that used to be a prime location but has since been a source of many problems.
The business has been operating in the same building since the 1950s, mainly servicing the farm vehicles from around the area. Since then, the building has expanded for more shop space and garages, but the idea remains the same.
