Johnson Utilities needs $100M in repairs, faces new customer moratorium

Troubled water and wastewater utility Johnson Utilities needs almost $100 million in repairs to prevent sewage overflows and taps from running dry, according to the company now managing the utility.
Because of the system’s disrepair, EPCOR USA, which took over control of Johnson Utilities in August, has asked to severely limit new customer hookups to ensure there are no problems for the existing 38,500 sewer and 28,100 water customers.
Regulators are expected to decide Wednesday whether several companies building new houses in the the Florence, Queen Creek and San Tan Valley area will see a partial moratorium until the systems are improved.
