Private Pinal petting zoo gets a zoning recommendation

The show may go on for a private petting zoo in San Tan Valley.

That’s after the Pinal County Planning and Zoning Commission forwarded a recommendation to the county Board of Supervisors to approve a special-use permit for a private petting zoo owned by Lisa Ferganchick.

Ferganchick has operated the zoo for eight years, but a recent complaint to the county forced her to seek the permit. She said that when she bought the 4.8-acre lot off of Ocotillo and Jackrabbit roads in San Tan Valley, she was under the impression the petting zoo was permitted, as previous owners had used the property to house a traveling circus and traveling zoo.
