Casa Grande council hears update on transit options

Even if a proposed transit route in Casa Grande is approved, service wouldn’t start for about three years, according to a consultant hired by the city.

At a study session of the City Council on Monday night, Dawn Cartier, president of CivTech, a transportation engineering firm, presented the findings of more than two years’ worth of work on possible bus routes or van service for the city.

The city currently is eligible to receive about $850,000 annually in federal funding to run a public transportation system. However, because Casa Grande doesn’t offer such a service, the city’s money is being gobbled up by other municipalities.
