AG won’t prosecute former Pinal officials after RICO audit

The Arizona Attorney General’s Office says it does not intend to prosecute Pinal County’s former county attorney and sheriff for questionable use of anti-racketeering funds.
State auditors found some suspicious practices with how Lando Voyles and Paul Babeu processed funds seized under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, which allows law enforcement officials to take cash and property belonging to criminals. The auditors submitted a report of their findings last year to Mark Brnovich’s office for further investigation of any criminal wrongdoing.
Ryan Anderson, the director of communications for the attorney general, told PinalCentral investigators did not find enough evidence to prosecute Voyles, Babeu or any other public officials for misusing RICO funds.
