CAC budget: Increase in funding; decrease in tax rate

Four years ago Central Arizona College was facing drastic cuts in state funding and the need to replace buildings on its Signal Peak Campus.
In order to meet the pressing needs of the college that year, the board decided to raise property taxes by 45 percent.
It was a move that was met with public outcry, legal challenges, an accusation of an Open Meeting Law violation and a recall effort to remove the board members who voted for it.
